Category: Let's talk
Hi all,
I am both on The Zone and E-pals over on Eyes2eyes.com. How many of you are over there? I do recognize a few of you from here, and vice versa. Which do you prefer? I have to say that while E-pals is calmer, I find it's mostly the same few people posting over there. Mind you, I don't look at all the boards over there, just the New Pals, Announcements, or the Just Wanna Chat, and some times, the Blindness Issues board. It seems that there, these 2 or 3 people are posting what appears to be stories or articles to promote discussion in the Just Wanna Chat board, as well as Blindness issues.
Checking here, I seem to find more variety of posting and other activities such as games, and graffiti. At first, I seemed to like E-pals, and still do, but now, I almost think the zone BBS is a little more enjoyable lately. What do you think??
I couldn't agree more! as a user of the site since august20, 2003 it's deffinatly a much better atmosphere. I do notice that type of stagnation on epals as well with the same two or three people posting all the time, not enough variety.
Good question. I liked E-Pals when I first joined because there were more active members and people posted in all of the forums. But in the 11 months since I joined E-Pals, even though new members keep joining, very few of the new ones post and several of the older members have stopped posting. There are two trouble makers there who like to get people riled up. When there were more regulars posting, the two trouble makers were easy to avoid. But now with only a few people posting, they are harder to avoid. Plus, it's true that only one or two forums get posted in now instead of all of them. So there is much less variety. So to answer your question, I now prefer zonebbs. And the quicknote feature is an additional reason to prefer this site.
Yeah, I just became a member of epals yesterday, and I already know who u r talking about. Y doesn't everybody block that stupid dickhead and not bother with him anymore? If everyone blocks him and ignores him, he'll get bored and leave eventually.
I'm also in both this site and EPals, and I still come to both places, mainly to read the discussions and sometimes post. I like EPals, I guess because I've gotten used to it, and I like reading the articles, but I like this site because it has more of a variety of things to do, like the games and chat features.

Ya thats sad kc8pnl that you're a member for one day and already you caught on to whats going on....and who's doing what (bitching and complaining.). Hey I just only post to those who I know as in on my buddy list. I'll add you on if you're gonna stick around on EPals. Other then that I had to send out a caution to my members on my own personal boards to be on the look out for any poor behavior and if so to ignore and report or leave the place and wait it out til it calms. Those who opt to stay know the risks of staying on a board that has so many arguments.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy EPals, so many of my friends from my boards and on HB actually go on there so we go on to hang out. Not all people on there are bad apples, there's just a selected one on there that's been getting on everyone's last nerves, hell when I posted in one person's discussion on JWC under something like people who are perfectionist piss me off, I talked about students getting like that and it's so true. But he stated that if kids are like that they'd kill themselves, hello I didn't mean that in that sort of fashion. I gave up right after that. But yes kc8pnl and renegade I agree with ya on this one. Not that I don't like EPals I think they need some real semi strict mods that will be there to listen and take action, not listen and not do anything at all or at least look into it.
Hi All,
I'm also a member of both sites. A think eyes2eyes is very good site, the result of a hard working webmaster. E-pals disappointed me though. It seems rather repetitive, always repeating the same discussion in a rather childish way. I read it every now and then, but it's been a while since I posted there.
I agree, here you find a broader variety of members. I guess I'm going to post more on these boards:)
Myralinn
Hey everyone. I have not been on Epals in a very long time. When I found the Zone, I decided that this was the only place I really needed to come, especially since my time is limited and I work on a computer all day anyway. So here I am. I love the discussions here, and I enjoy slacking off with some quicknotes when I have the chance. I have no idea who the trouble maker is on Epals but it sounds like he is a super dickhead! Keep on zoning with me, everyone. If someone wants to send me a private message and fill me in on the Epals gossip, i'd enjoy that. And yes, as Myr pointed out, Eyes2Eyes is a good site but I always found Epals a bitweak.
Nah, don't bother adding me, but thanks. I don't think I'll be using that sight much. The articles on the sight itself r interesting, but as far as the message boards go, there isn't really much there, that we don't get on the zone. The difference between there and here is that people aren't at each others throats like a few of the people on e-pals r. And they wonder y no one posts anything anymore?
I have to add, after seeing the response to my post, that this site is definitely more productive and the users are more interactive. I do have mass quick notes turned off because quite a while ago, people were sending mass quick notes that didn't concern me. I didn't feel comfortable with so many tenn-agers from the Wisconsin School for the Blind or which ever it was, but now there seems to be more people with varying ages here which makes it nicer. I also find just from reading all the responses that people actually respond to posts, unlike Epals. I've posted a few things over there, and have gotten little response from the users. That seems to be the case, certain posters get more responses than others.
Hi hlast,
well I just happened to be browsing topics, and this one must've come up after I had left here for awhile. Well, it's sad that e-pals has beengetting skimpy in the posts department, because it really is a nice sight, and I have a few friends there. I think the reason some folks get more responses on here than others is that there more teens and 20 somethings than there are any other age ranges. Cat lover is the only one on the zone older than I am. I left this sight for a long time, because most of the topics in the let's talk board didn'tconcern me, and I had given up on the sight, until I received the last sight news update, and was just curious to see what had been added. You'll find me more increasingly on the safe heaven board, but this topic interested me, so just thought I'd reply.
have a nice day all, or night, as it is here now.

The e2e articles are definitely great. The houssehold tips e.g. are very cool and one of the ads (or an article, I don't remember) pointed out the talking thermostat, it's something I'm going to get very soon, it seems like such a cool device. But that site is to blindness concentrated. I want to be viewed as a person, not as a blind person, the fact that I cannot see does not holy define who I am, sure it influences many things that I do, it prevents me from driving (for the most part) or watching baseball (well I can't drum up inthusiasm for it) por play tennis or watch Baywatch e.g., and it probably makes me more interested in music etc and there are often things I want to discuss e.g. best way to cross a street or cool aids that help out with every day things etc, but I hate having a community or people look at mee as blind #1 and a person #2 .. that's what I sadly feel the Eyes2eyes site does too much. I'm sure it may be good for some and I think the web master has done a fantastic job. I've emailed her and thanked her for a great contribution, but in terms of chatting and enjoying hanging out I think the Zone does a way better job, and it has improved a lot lately, hail to the folks keeping this alive.
cheers

I see so complaining is now a crime since when did this site become a fascist dictatorship
Well I wanted to explore the E2E boards, so I signed up but never got my password and stuff mailed to me. Catlover was helping me with it, but I never got it. So I've not gone on there and checked it out. The site looks nice though.
Caitlin
I really don't think one site is better than another. I'm on both and like both. I think it's just a matter of people migrating over to the new cool site, which is this one for the time being. I expect one day somebody will come up with a newer and cooler site and some people will leave this one for that new one. And drama will happen wherever you go. It just depends on who reacts to it and how, if drama is the issue.
You're probably right Labyrinth, I think sites are a lot like songs that make it to number 1 on the charts. It's number one for a while, then a few weeks later it's down to number 30 or lower. As for drama, well when people use to get overly dramatic about anything I posted, I guess I did what they wanted, I went back in my corner and shut up, but that's really not for me, so if one of my posts was in a topic, and people respond to a topic of mine in so many words like, shut up and deal, well I tell them if they don't want to read my posts, they can skip over them. I think it's a positive sign that new people are coming in, the more people, the more there's a chance you'll find people who you are chat compatible with.
wonderwoman
I agree with the both of you. To make a web site, song, book, anything good, you need publicity and appeal, a good product and a little bit of luck. And it seems like luck is with The Zone right now, and it's definitely got a good product and popularity, and it's being publicized more and more!!!
Caitlin
I agree with you Caitlin. I left here for a long time, because noone replied to my posts, but I decided, oh well, if I post, it's out there anyway. wonderwoman
Yeah I love coming here, because my posts mostly always get answers of some kind. And everyone here in general is very accepting of me and of the users on here. I've made lots of interesting friends, and I feel welcome here. It's like a big family lol grin.
Caitlin
well anyways, I haven't had any problems with the admins. I like reading my own posts anyway, lol.
wonderwoman
Yay.
We try.
Though you should see the feature request list. It's huge.
I think this site will be very popular for a very long while to come. There is always something going on here (always daily anagrams to suspense ourselves and try and win), always new games and most importantly the friendly community we have here. I can speak for others here in that so many friends have been made on this site. To be honest, 50% of my net friends I talk to now I met through the zone. .. As caitlin says, it is like a family and most people are very accepting of everybody.
Here's to the one and only www.zone bbs! Good going team! :)
Absolute ditto, RdFreak, you speak with all of our opinions! Yayayaya ... lol ... claps for the zone, and all that keep it up, and to all the users who make it what it is!
Caitlin
I bet the feature request list would be very interesting to see.
I'm glad I started getting interesed in the anagrams, because if I ever feel that I have to leave the boards, except for the safe haven board, which I will never leave, then I can just play anagrams, and maybe I'll eventually get better at it, but it's no big deal if I don't.
wonderwoman
Yeah, I like exploring all the boards, though if a topic gets foul or boring, I leave it generally, unless I'm interested, in which I just ignore the language and keep reading. But the games are definitely godo to have, when there's no one to talk to (which rarely happens) and when you're wiating for replies to reply to on the boards.
Caitlin
Ya, well you guys know many of the most requested ones. Pictures in profiles, quicknote history, searching profiles, etc. etc. etc. I could go on for a year.
Well J, you won't ever have to worry about me requesting pictures inprofiles, I couldn't see them anyway, so they wouldn't do me any good.
Well Caitlin, actually, that's how I got started in the games, because some one would send me a quicknote, and I'd drop whatever I was reading to talk to them, but then they'd just stop talking and leave me hanging, and that's always annoyed me, but that's not the quicknotes fault, nor admins fault, that's just people. Anyway, that gets annoying, I mean, I'd check their profile, and find they were in a game, and I'd think, well the least they could've done was tell me they had to get back to the game, or better yet, not messaged me till they were through with their game. So that's how I got started with hangman and anagrams. Since the word size has been raised to 5 letters instead of 3, I have a feeling my word count will drop dramatically, and I won't be able to get as many, but I guess it had to be done. By the way J, will there be a set of safe haven like quicknotes in the future? I'm not trying to push, I'm just saying if there were, I'd enjoy that.
wonderwoman
Safe haven quicknotes? What do you mean, WOnderwoman, do you mean like a quicknote section or something? Lol sorry ... I'm like really tired, and not comprehending this, not your fault ...
Gotta go now. Must go to bed ... lol.
Caitlin
Not in the short-term, though we've thought of doing it if the site gets a lot bigger. the word size changes daily. Sometimes it's only 2.
Well you're right, it's like a song on the top 40 list lol. You make it to number one and then someone spoils it for everyone making it look worse and worse. For me, I hadn't been on EPals as of late. Been too busy working on my own website and getting the word out about it. It's such tough luck here on my end. For one thing search engines promise only to index or crawl on part of your site (if at all any.) and mailing lists, I don't know where to look. Caitlin gave me a useful website url to go on and get info. But it's majorly the word of mouth, not the robot (search engine).

well, that's ok j, it doesn't make a whole lot of difference whether it's 2 or 5, I still got 91 even when the word size was 5, and last night, it was back to 3, and I only found 57.
What I was talking about Caitlin, is a separate set of quicknotes, where it's nice, pleasant, like the safe haven. Anyway, my anagram numbers are stillfairly high.
wonderwoman
Yeah. Good idea. And Wonderwoman, wow, you're, like, awesomeness at Annagrams!
Caitlin
While epals is a calm site I would have to say I like this one better. As mentioned the same few people post over and over and over and it gets rather boring after a while. This site is active and there's a lot more population participating.
Troy
Thanks Caitlin, I'm not in the top 5, and doubt I ever will be, but I get enough to make it interesting. Last night I got 100 on one, and I got 57 on the last one, right when the word changed.
Well, there some nice folk on e-pals, and I haven't gotten in to trouble over there, though one fellow on there got sort of snippy and high and mighty, just because a topic of mine didn't grab ahold of him. It was my disabilities and reincarnation theory, and he responded by telling me we could educate sighted people in the here and now, and I made his head hurt trying to follow my past and present lives. I responded by saying well I'm good at confusing people, and making their heads. And I even put the lol in there, trying to sound good natured about it, and he said to keep on with those crazy topics, that one just wasn't for him, and he was sorry if he hurt my feelings. I wonder why people even read topics which they say doesn't grab them? Anyway, Alex cheerfully defended me, for which I will be grateful. Anyway, I'm feeling encouraged that a few older folk are coming in, even if it's very slowly, and I haven't gotten in real trouble on here yet, so as long as the admins and community leaders don't have a problem with me, I'll hang in there, after all, the admins are the folk that matter most of all. I'd leave if an admin had a problem with me, because I respect admins and their wishes.
wonderwoman
No one's going to have a problem with you, Wonderwoman, you're a great addition to the site, and, you're the one of the top three board posters, which is superb!
Caitlin
Oh yeah and about E-Pals, I can see how reading the same stuff from teh same people over and over could get boring. With these boards, there's always new people, new topics, new posts ... and so on.
Caitlin
Yes there are, and although I don't post original topics in the rant board anymore, I still read posts over there, and will respond if it's something I have a feeling about, and if there are at least one or 2 posts I agree with. As long as I'm not one who is in the middle of an argument on the rant board, it's sort of like reading a net soap opera, where you wonder who will win the argument, and who will have the last word, who will get bested in the argument, how this or that person will respond. If I feel someone is being picked on, I will try to respond to the person being picked on, in an encouraging manner, and just make it about that person, and not anyone else.
wonderwoman
I agree with wonderwoman.
Caitlin
Ok, trying this again, after I got timed out. I know this topic is old, but I had to revise some thoughts. I went back to e-pals about 2 days ago, thinking to stay there for a while. I was posting about my jaws frustrations, and a bit of this and that, but the this and that part of it I won't go into. Anyway, a certain user, I won't mention names, said, wonderwoman, do you really think anyone wants to read all that? I askeed her why she was reading it then, and I advised her to take her own advice. Then someone I'd had nothing but good conversations with said that I took it the wrong way, that what she really meant was if my posts weren't so wordy, maybe I'd get more replies. Then she told me I could've said, I know I get wordy sometimes, thanks for stopping by. She told me she'd seen my post on the e-pals suggestions board, about an ignore feature, and come on, life was too short for all this, people were starting to post on a regular basis. Well, whatever's gone down with me on here, at least I haven't been taken to task for talking too much. It just isn't easy on e-pals to skip over one poster to another like it is here.If it were, after I responded, I could've just done so. Oh well, if I'm going to have to prune my posts down, and have to be careful about how long or short they are, no thank you. Is that why there's a 400 character limit on here? just wondering. Just when I'm wondering if it's time for me to leave here, someone posts something interesting that applies to me, that I can reply to, like Krisme's post in booknook about the magazines you get, and if it weren't for KC, I would've never learned about gutenberg, which is an amazing sight, and can sometimes keep me busy for a long time.
wonderwoman
I prefer the zone, because you can kind of chat to people who are online, but you can still send private messages. You have more things in one site and you meet a lot of people there and there can be a better conversation than just as e-pals.
Hi Inessle,
Well, most of the people on e-pals are fine, and I went there mostly because the people there are in my age range or older. I don't have enough in common with anyone much for one on ones, but if someone posts something I can relate to, I can reply to that.
wonderwoman
Don't be so sensitive WW it's only a message board y'know...
